The Seven Kingdoms is returning to screens. Fans got a first look at the premiere trailer for the second Game of Thrones prequel, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, unveiled at an important entertainment convention.
Storyline and Heroes
Inspired by a series of novellas by the original author, the show focuses on an improbable duo wandering the kingdoms of Westeros. We meet a inexperienced, innocent but valiant knight referred to as Ser Duncan the Tall, alongside his diminutive squire Egg.
Taking place in an era when the Targaryen family maintains control over the Iron Throne, the story offers knight training, knightly contests, and major clashes. Memories of the final dragon linger in the minds of the inhabitants, and great destinies await these unlikely companions.
The central inspiration for this series was to follow the main character concerning atmosphere and outlook. We wanted fans to undergo his sensations—the mud, the agony, the frustration.
Cast and Setting
This preview displays a feudal realm packed with warriors, rulers, attendants, commoners, and glimpses of magical elements. Joining the cast include several high-born characters and important personas from the royal family.
This story is set several decades prior to the plot of the original series, and over seven decades subsequent to the time period of the earlier origin story. In contrast to earlier series, this installment is expected to be shorter and has a distinct tone.
Production Approach
As stated by the head writer, the focus revolves around authenticity and everyday experiences. Rather than large-scale drama, the show intends to portray the difficulty of medieval life—the dirt, the cold, and the bodily effort of chivalry.
- Minimal attention on supernatural features
- Grounded storytelling unlike prior series
- Positive vibe amid bleak environment
The production team have emphasized that the show won't focus on nobility or kings and queens, but on the contrary begin at the bottom. Audiences can expect a personal and rough representation of life in Westeros.
