The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Boost Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Poor Reception
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer direction.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Hires
The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on next week.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.
The President
